July 2013 ATA Delegate Report
The Missouri State Shoot was just completed as I write this. This is the first major trapshoots of the year in our area. Missouri State is a nice shoot and even though I have been unable to attend lately, it remains one of my favorites. It is always well attended by Illinois shooters and we always seem to take our fair share of trophies to the east side of the Mississippi River. This year was no exception. Several folks shot well and I congratulate each and every one of you. As always, a few earned extra recognition. Randy Miller broke 100 straight from the 27 at the Fall shoot. This Spring, he again broke 100 in the Director's Handicap. I saw a 99 on another handicap. He had the only 200 non-resident in the class singles for AAA Champ. There is more than luck involved here. That is some impressive shooting. Congrats, Randy.
It seems I am always commenting on how well the younger shooters are doing at the major shoots. There was a squad that stood out at this shoot. Squad 133 broke 997 x 1000 in Saturday's singles championship. Four Illinois shooters and one young man from Minnesota made up this squad. Knowing the four Illinois shooters involved, I am sure there was a lot of black smoke out front all day. On post one was Junior, Dale Gerlich 199, post two was Junior, Drew Strohecker 199, post three Junior, Tony Fortino 200, post four was Junior Gold, Zachary Warweg 199 (MN) and post five was Junior Gold, Tim Varble 200. Nice job, guys. That had to be fun. And one more exciting achievement, Garret Zeeb, a sub-junior, broke a100 straight in the Event 11 handicap. Good shooting young man!!!!
June 2013 ATA Delegates Report
I don't have the words to describe the loss we suffered with the passing of Barb Hermes. She was a great lady. Barb's trapshooting skills are evident by the fact she is a three time Illinois Ladies Singles Champion. She won the Ladies Handicap in 1994 and the Ladies Doubles in 2004. She took way too much pleasure in passing out her famous "beat by a girl" pins. Yes, I have one. Barb also gave back to the sport. Barb and Pat donate the Barbie Award annually. Barb created this award which goes to the high "C" or "D" Class Lady in the State Singles Championship.
We can take solace in the fact that she lived every day to the fullest. Barb knew how to enjoy life. I personally feel Barb's greatest asset (there were many) was her sense of humor. Her smile was infectious. I've heard the statement, "This person lit up every room she entered." Barb actually did just that. Our sincere condolences to Pat and all of Barb's family and friends, we will all miss her.

To be considered for the State Team, shooters must meet minimum target requirements during the 2012 shooting year. They must shoot the state shoot all around targets as well as any Illinois zone shoot all around targets. The target requirements are:
|Lady I & Lady II||1500||1500||1000|
|Sub Vets, Vets & Sr Vets||1500||1500||1000|
|Jr & Jr Gold||800||800||600|
If you find I made a mistake, contact me as soon as possible so we can make any necessary changes before the program is printed.
Illinois shooters performed well at the Autumn Grand in Tucson. All American, Mike Westjohn, started the target year off by breaking the first 300 singles targets thrown. By my count, he came home with 5 trophies. David Nelson had a good shoot, winning 5 trophies also. Included was a 99 in handicap, good for R.U. in Event #5.
Sub Jr, Christopher Haire, accounted for 6 trophies. I believe that handicap scores of 97 and 98 moved him to the 27 yd line. Andrew Narvick brought home 5 trophies. He had a 98, two 99's and a 100 straight in doubles. Very impressive.
Illinois sort of dominated Event #23, the doubles championship. Mike won AAA with a 99, Andrew won Jr, also with a 99 and Christopher won Sub Jr with a 96. Congratulations to these four guys on some fine shooting. We are proud of you.
